Favorite Foodie Podcasts
If you know me, you know that I listen to a lot of podcasts. Mostly they are foodie podcasts, but I have a fair number of Disney-related fan shows on my iPhone as well. Today, I wanted to share a short list of some of my favorite foodie podcasts with you. As you’ll see I just couldn’t resist throwing in a Disney show for good measure.
America’s Test Kitchen
Host: Christopher Kimball
Description: America’s Test Kitchen is a real 2,500 square foot test kitchen located just outside of Boston that is home to more than three-dozen full-time cooks and product testers. Our mission is simple: to develop the absolute best recipes for all of your favorite foods. To do this, we test each recipe 30, 40, sometimes as many as 70 times, until we arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most-foolproof recipe.
My Thoughts: “ATC is a show with an excellent, consistently-structured format that brings tips, backstory, and much more to everything from regional ingredients and specialties to kitchen gadgets and cooking gurus. It’s apparent (and reassuring) that Christopher, the host, learns right along side his listeners. I don’t miss an episode.”
Growing Your Grub
Host: Steve Howard
Description: This podcast is devoted to educating you on how to grow your own safe and healthy food garden. We welcome your feedback and questions for the show and look forward to having you join our community.
My Thoughts: “Growing Your Grub is how-to gardening with a host that walks his talk. He’s sincere, frugal, and entertaining. It’s one of the more recent additions to my podcast subscription list, so I’m still enjoying the back episodes.”
The Catholic Foodie
Host: Jeff Young
Description: The Catholic Foodie is where food meets faith. The Catholic Foodie brings much more to the table than merely recipes and reviews. The show highlights how food – good food – can be a sign to us of God’s love and care for each of us and our families. The tagline, “where food meets faith,” speaks volumes about the importance of family, which is so often developed around the kitchen table.
My Thoughts: “Knowing Jeff personally allows me to enthusiastically tell you that he’s truly genuine about both his faith as his food. Produced near New Orleans, The Catholic Foodie combines the regional Cajun and Creole cuisine with the traditions of Catholicism. Listeners quickly learn that they are now, and have always been, inseparable. Listen to this unique show for a boost of the heart and the palate.”
Disney Food Blog
Host: A. J. Wolf
Description: Join the Disney Food Blog’s AJ Wolfe on a Disney Dining adventure! The DFB Podcast covers everything from fine dining to fast food and snacks in the Disney Theme Parks, resorts, and cruise ships. Get the best Disney dining tips and tricks from AJ’s 20 years of experience with Walt Disney World, Disneyland, the Disney Cruise Line, and much more.
My Thoughts: “DFB is the mothership of all things related to the restaurants and food of Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Want menus? Want tips? Want to stretch those dollars? Go to the Disney Food Blog before you go to the parks. This DFB podcast leverages the audio medium to take this helpful info to the next level. Among DisNerds like myself, A. J. is one of our favorite bloggers and fellow fans.”
Gourmet’s Diary of a Foodie
Host: Ruth Reichl
Description: Looking at the world food-first, “Gourmet’s Diary of a Foodie” is a sophisticated, high-end public television series that introduces viewers to a feast of cutting-edge food trends, exotic ingredients, and in-the-know food players on an international level. Expanding on the lessons learned during the show’s travels, Gourmet Editor-in-Chief Ruth Reichl, along with a supporting staff of Gourmet’s renowned food editors, go inside the magazine’s test kitchens to show viewers how they can bring this diverse culinary landscape into their own homes.
My Thoughts: If you do a search for “foodie” in iTunes, I’ll just bet this podcast comes up in the top three. Often when I’ve checked, it’s number one. If you enjoy Gourmet magazine, this is that magazine come to life in your earbuds.
Harvest Eating
Host: Keith Snow
Description: The Harvest Eating lifestyle in the words of Chef Keith Snow founder of Harvest Eating. Personal thoughts and helpful musings about this healthy living lifestyle.
My Thoughts: “I found this podcast most recently and have to say that I really like the candor of the host. He’s knowledgeable and it shows. From gardens to goats and from canning to cows, he’s got tips and tricks to optimize your production and use of seasonal ingredients.”
Real Food University
Host: Scott Kustes
Description: The Real Food University podcast focuses on important food news and topics, along with tips and tricks for getting new foods into your cooking repertoire and adding pizazz to old stand-bys. Hosted by Scott Kustes of Real Food University.
My Thoughts: “Tired of those highly processed whatzits in your pantry, get schooled by Scott on the differences between processed foods and real foods, as well as between conventionally-grown (not good) and organic (good) crops. He’s an advocate for food freedom, which seems to be in short supply these days.”
And of course, our very own podcast …
