What Happened to Bean Groovy?
Yep. Bean Groovy is closed. Despair not, however, because the Bean is coming back. Sort of. Not only will there be a new location, but also in a new concept for the business. The Facebook post below was added to the Bean Groovy page earlier this week and it raised quite a bit of interest and many well wishes for the future. I thought I’d share it with you here in case you missed it.
So what is it’s future? First the location. From what I understand from Brian Fisher, the Bean’s owner, the new location will be one that most of us drive by at least once or twice a week. Do you know the building that housed the old Carolina Sandwich Company at 291 West Palmetto in downtown Florence? That’s the new location. With new siding being the only updates visible from the road, I’m anxious to see what is going on inside.
Second, the new concept. The new Bean will not be a coffee shop. It will be a bistro. We’ll miss the Bean and the sense of community that it created, as well as the fact that it was a local favorite music venue, but given Brian’s track record the new restaurant will no doubt be as magnetic.
By the way, while we may use the word often, the term “bistro” is sometimes misunderstood. According to the omnipresent Wikipedia, a bistro is typically “… a small restaurant serving moderately priced simple meals in a modest setting. Bistros are defined mostly by the foods they serve.” That concept will fit in nicely for the growing downtown food scene, I think, and even appears to have a slight jump on the competition from the much beloved Victor’s Bistro which you already know is headed downtown in 2013. I don’t know the new Bean’s name yet, but I have my ear to the ground.
Look for more announcements by staying connected to the former Bean Groovy Facebook Page and by reading our updates here on PeeDeeFoodie.com. Brian told me that he currently anticipates an opening date some time in December.
