Yesterday was the first “official day” of our trip to Walt Disney World® hosted by … Walt Disney World®! As a reminder, we’re attending the Food Blog Forum (Twitter Hashtag: #FBFOrl). It was informal and mostly free to enjoy with our family and friends. My family and I made two separate trips to the Magic Kingdom and hit all the big attractions, as well as the Main Street Electrical Parade, Wishes, and Magic, The Memories, and You. Thank you, Disney, for this fabulous opportunity. Thank you, Food Blog Forum, for bringing us all together last night for the first time.
The only formal group event was the reception at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa last evening. Between the SummerHouse and the beach, the weather was gorgeous and food was delicious. It was sponsored by Walt Disney World Public Relations and some of the food highlights for me were the Mortadella-Provolone Sesame Cone and Mushrooms-Stilton Green Tea Cone, as well as the grilled, poached, and tempura shrimp. Folks, the shrimp were huge. We don’t get that kind back home, at least not affordably. I had a couple … or four.
If you know the “Grand Flo” then you might just agree with me that while it’s beautiful, it’s nearly-monochromatic South Florida, Victorian theme can be a bit cold and impersonal. Well, I can’t say that about this reception or the event site last night. After all, just try putting over 120 food bloggers and photographers together and not have the event be filled with warmth, camaraderie, and enthusiasm. It’s pretty much an impossibility, like reversing gravity or something.
Some of the wonderful people that I met so far are: Kathy Hester of Healthy Slow Cooking, Kristen Baker of Wise Antics of Life, Marilyn Torres of Forkful, Ann McElfresh of Cooking Healthy for Me, Chef Jessica Bright, and Joanne Ozug of Fifteen Spatulas. I would encourage you to visit their blogs and learn all you can about them. I truly enjoyed our conversations.
Today, it’s “The Odyssey” for educational sessions on writing, public relations, photography, and much more. Lunchtime will be a special opportunity featuring healthy Disney selections from chefs across The World. As for now, I hope you enjoy the photo gallery below.
