Feelin’ like a Froyoz

• July 21, 2011 • Comments (1)

Former president Harry S. Truman is famous for saying “If you can’t stand the heat you better get out of the kitchen.” He was talking to the Aero Club of Washington and referring to his days as a county judge.

That said, he might has well have been talking about the Pee Dee in late July and early August.  It’s just plain flippin’ hot!  Even though most of us don’t get out of the kitchen that is the Palmetto State all that frequently, we can grab something cold to help us chill just a little.

On that note, I’ve been feeling like a “Froyoz”.  What’s a Froyoz?  Well, I’ll tell you.  Just thinking about it, I’m feeling cooler already.

Froyoz is essentially a self-service frozen yogurt dessert shop with helpful folks behind the counter, should the number of choices get overwhelming.  There are lots of choices.

Their frozen yogurt tastes great and is supposed to be healthy, if you care about that type of thing, but that’s just the starting point.  Actually, that’s step two in the dessert creation process, so I’m getting ahead of myself.  The starting point is actually step one, selection of your favorite plain or waffle cone cup base.

With your cup in hand, you then select from that day’s options for frozen yogurt foundations.  As you would expect, some basic flavors are always available, but look for the specials and experiment a bit.

Next is where the options get truly overwhelming.  You get to pick from literally scores of toppings, including breakfast cereals and candies to cookies and granola.  The combinations are endless and the dessert you create is uniquely your own.  Of course, you might diminish the healthy attributes of the plain yogurt in the process, but with this economy it’s about time you lived a little.  Don’t be embarrassed to top your chocolate yogurt with gummy worms and cocoa puffs.  Michelle’s Let’s Move campaign can just take a seat for the day.

Prices are fair and based upon weight.  Froyoz also sells bottled water, soft drinks and logo merchandise.  The store is bright, colorful and cool.  They must have great A/C.

We last went to the Froyoz at Broadway at the Beach, currently the only one in SC, on a hot June day.  Because we’re planning to visit the beach at some point this weekend, I’m feeling more and more like a Froyoz every minute.

Note:  This is a non-solicited and non-sponsored post.  We just really like Froyoz!

I agree completely! I'm working at BATB this summer as a part-time job and I have fallen in love with Froyoz! I'm also lactose intolerant, but I can eat their yogurt with barely a rumble in my tummy. Excellent review!
