Review: Bow Thai Kitchen

Here’s a Quick Bite review by Chef Katherine Fridl, Contributing Blogger

_________

(Hartsville, SC)   Good Grief this Pee Dee Chef is excited!  Recently I had lunch at Bow Thai Kitchenin Hartsville; my second visit.  As a chef I am typically more critical than most.  As a restaurant owner, I am typically very hard to please.  I can say that I had a dining experience that not only satisfied my cleanliness demands, but also exceeded my taste demands!

We started with Calamari, Spring Rolls and Chicken Satay.  The Calamari was like eating butter.  It was so soft and tender with just enough coating that it didn’t mask the flavor of the tender rings of goodness.  Bow Thai’s Spring Rolls crunchy skin with the freshness of crisp cabbage inside.  While the Chicken Satay was about average, it was still tender and good.  It included a typical peanut sauce that was also delicious.

Authenticity is important to the chefs at Bow Thai Kitchen, as noted on the restaurant’s website“Here at Bow Thai Kitchen we believe a restaurant is only as strong as its food.   We make regular trips to Thai Marketsas far as Charlotte, NC and Washington, D.C. to get the right ingredients.  Pitchsinee Jiratra-anant, owner and graduate of the Wandee Culinary Institute of Bangkok, works side-by-side with our Thai cooking staff to ensure our food is authentic.”

Next we ordered the Green Curry Bowl to share, choosing both chicken and shrimp.  All I can say is WOW!

The Green Curry coconut “broth” was a dream.  The rice served on the side was properly cooked and added a nice, but not necessarily needed, addition to the overall deliciousness of the dish.

Bow Thai Kitchen is clean and has an open layout … maybe too open.  Then again our meal was interrupted by an obnoxious diner that felt compelled to carry on a conversation on his cell phone just loud enough for everyone to hear.   By the way, unless you are waiting for an organ transplant, nothing is so important that you can’t put down a cell phone long enough to enjoy your fellow dining guests.

Chef Fridl rates Bow Thai Kitchen “Three Gas Pumps” in our Restaurant Rating System.  It’s worth a Road Trip!  You can also find and learn more about Bow Thai Kitchen on Facebook.

I have visited twice and have not been impressed and not been back since November. Now this saddens me as I do love Thai food and was really excited they were coming to town. To me the prices and the amount of food was not compatible, and the food really wasn't that flavorable. With that being said, if anyone can prove to me they have improved then maybe I will be willing to try them again

Thank you for commenting. Dissenting opinions are very much appreciated. They are what generate debate and what often lead to improvements.

I'm so glad you did this review. We live just outside Florence off I-20, so Hartsville is not a bad drive for us at all. I have wondered about this restaurant, but have never been. I've never had Thai food, and your overview of what your selections was extremely helpful. We will definitely be checking out Bow Thai!
